Where is Bangladesh?

Bangladesh is a South Asian country bordered by India and Myanmar, with the Bay of Bengal along its southern coast. Known for its rich culture and resilience, Bangladesh gained independence in 1971 after a long struggle marked by conflict and sacrifice. Despite its natural beauty and vibrant communities, the country faces significant challenges, including widespread poverty, limited access to education and healthcare, and frequent natural disasters such as floods and cyclones. These hardships impact the lives of many families, especially children, who often struggle to break the cycle of poverty.

About Us

Our Founders' Story:

In 1985 Dave and Beverly Waid began sponsoring educational needs of children in Bangladesh. A few years later, Dave decided to go visit the children in person, even though he hardly knew where Bangladesh was on a map! During his visit, he realized the desolate conditions that these children were living in, and his heart melted. Dave was tasked with spreading awareness & finding sponsors in the U.S. to help give the children the hope of a better future.

Dave returned to Bangladesh in 1995, accompanied by his wife, Beverly. After years of teaching in the United States, she was dismayed at the conditions in the dilapidated schools. There were no books, paper, pencils, chalkboards or desks. School was taught through lectures & oral quizzes, and most children struggled in this educational style.

This trip sparked Dave & Beverly's passion and they created a plan to begin making positive changes overseas. This resolve led them to sell their home in Utah, move into a fifth-wheel trailer, and start traveling around the United States to share the story of the children in Bangladesh.

On one of their visits, they were asked to adopt a young girl with a cleft lip. Dave turned to Beverly, saying "Maybe we are supposed to start a children's home?" The mission grew over the next few years into what we call Bangla Hope today. From fifth-wheel to house to an actual office location, Bangla Hope has grown to a support system of many talented, passionate people striving to provide hope and change in Bangladesh.

Because of generous donors in America, additional projects were begun in Bangladesh. In 2006, a dental clinic was opened in Dhaka, and the Handicraft industry was started to provide work for destitute women. Construction of a medical clinic began in 2009 and is now complete. Since the inception of Bangla Hope, many have volunteered to make it a success. Their participation has helped ensure that the donated funds really make a positive difference in the lives of the children. Dave and Beverly continue to contribute of their time and talents to Bangla Hope.

Since then, Dave has passed away, but his legacy continues through Beverly and the dedicated team they built together. We are deeply grateful for their vision, hard work, and compassion. What they started has grown into a ministry that has touched and transformed countless lives.
