Some of the children classified as orphans
have one or occasionally two living parents. When one parent is deceased,
it may be impossible for the remaining parent to care for the child and
work. Some children are abandoned and some parents are so poor they are
unable to help the child in any way. For survival, the child is brought to
the receiving center.

he realized he wasn't making enough to pay his debts for his
business, he disappeared. Caleb's mother sold some of their
land to pay off the debt and the father returned. The debt
cycle repeated ending with the father marrying another woman. Caleb's
mother could not care for her two young children and work to
survive. |

food. As Jennie grew and began wandering, her mother knew it
